Fox Learning Systems
Fox Learning Systems (FLS) is a company which provides computer-based training products for the nursing home industry. FLS was founded in 1998 by Debra Fox, former news anchor reporter for Pittsburgh’s WTAE Channel 4, and Jules Rosen, MD, Professor of Psychiatry at UPMC-Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, and a specialist in geriatrics and long-term care issues. |
|
FLS produced an interactive computer CD-ROM training series – Solutions For Long Term Care – for use in training under-educated caregivers and aides in nursing homes. FLS approached Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation (Gateways) with several business needs.

FLS needed:
- A more complete business plan
- Identification of potential markets and/or
business partners
- Identification of additional funding sources
|
The Gateways team helped FLS accelerate the development of their business. Gateways worked with FLS to provide business planning services, identify partners, and obtain financing. Gateways identified long-term care insurers as potential business partners, and pursued these partnering opportunities.

|
|
- Gateways crafted a comprehensive business plan with three-year pro forma financial projections.
- A partnering agreement was arranged with Royal & Sun Alliance, one of the 25 largest property and casualty insurance companies in the United States offering insurance solutions to long-term care facilities for the elderly. Royal & Sun Alliance is able to provide the FLS training series products to their customers at a discounted rate.
- Royal & Sun Alliance provided the necessary
funds to FLS for the production of a new
Worker Safety training series product.
