LOCBox™ developed a technology for the thermoforming of plastics for production of packaging and other applications. The technology is an improvement over existing thermoforming mold designs, reducing the time and cost for set-up and production. LOCBox™ provides production equipment, modifications to current equipment, and product development and design.

Even though the LOCBox™ management team had several years of packaging industry experience, they needed a strategy and strategic partners with which to enter a well-established market with their new production technology.

Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation conducted a market validation study, including calculation of the return on investment that can be realized by manufacturers who apply LOCBox’s technology and designs. Gateways also introduced LOCBox™ to several Japanese thermoforming companies who were potential strategic partners.

Though Gateways’ assistance, LOCBox™ forged partnerships with several Japanese companies to jointly pursue new markets and new product designs. The return on investment of the new products and production technique allows for a savings of 10-30% on plastic parts over those produced using traditional thermoforming techniques.
