Optolynx is a manufacturer and supplier of advanced fiber optic devices for the optical communications industry. Products include fiber optic modules for Gigabit Ethernet, Fiber Channel and high-speed plastic fiber optic data transmissions. Optolynx’s core technology was developed by Michael Melloch, a Purdue University professor of electrical and computer engineering.

  • In its early stages, Optolynx needed to
develop a business and marketing plan.
  • Optolynx was seeking an investment partner to share in start-up costs.
  • The company also needed guidance in developing and executing a manufacturing and distribution strategy.

Gateways connected Optolynx with an industry “mentor” who, along with Gateways, assisted with the business and marketing planning. Gateways also assisted with finding investment partners for the company, and facilitated in the formation of the company. Gateways also helped negotiate a contract for Optolynx with a Japanese manufacturing and distribution partner, Toho Technology.

  • With Gateways’ assistance, Optolynx formed a company and began to manufacture OEM (Original Equipment Manufacter) products.
  • The distribution contract with Toho Technology provided Optolynx with an international distribution channel for their products.
