The Logic House – Providing Internet Technology Solutions
To Enhance Educational Processes

OThe Logic House is a growing software company located in the Pittsburgh’s Strip District. TLH was funded in 2000 and has been profitable since inception. TLH has developed an open source software system on web-based architecture that focuses on managing public school districts. As an open source code, the software can be copied and is not proprietary. Consequently, for the school districts it generates an immediate savings in licensing fees. The system has been demonstrated in over 18 local school districts.

However, the benefits to the school districts go far beyond savings in licensing fees. The FreeLogic System assists the school district with every phase of operations, including District administration, school administration, teachers and the classroom, students and the learning environment, Parent-teacher communication, and State required reporting. For example, using the Web, parents can get up to the minute information about their child’s attendance, discipline and academic performance. The System can also dial-up a parent’s cell phone number with a warning message, if the student’s grades or attendance starts to fall. Each student is protected by an encrypted password for privacy.

PGC has assisted The Logic House with the development and refinement of their business model for expansion. In addition to fees from school districts, The Logic House is seeking to diversify its fee base, and PGC is identifying potential sponsors. PGC also intends to assist with fund-raising opportunities from sources that target education. These sources include the Federal and State government and local and national foundations. PGC has an equity interest in The Logic House through a small investment from its Program Related Investment fund.
