Over the years, many celebrities, athletes and notable business professionals have found their way to Engine House 25 in Lawrenceville... home of the Roberto Clemente Museum and Duane Rieder's photography studio and winery. Whether they come to tour the museum, utilize the studio, or visit the wine cellar, Rieder has noticed that his visitors have one thing in common: they all have a desire to help inner-city youth achieve their dreams and aspirations. This common thread ultimately inspired the creation of The Clemente Society.
Rieder formed a non-profit charity whose members could purchase barrels of privately-labeled wine, and then donate a portion of their inventory for various fundraisers to support disadvantaged youth. Since his goal is to carry on Clemente's concern for under-priviledged children, Rieder thought it only fitting to name the new entity after the great sports icon and humanitarian.
To make his vision a reality, Rieder partnered with Pittsburgh Gateways which is helping to develop the business model, market the concept and manage day-to-day operations. Through our network of business contacts and funding sources, The Clemente Society has been able to attract seed capital through several prominent Pittsburgh-based foundations, celebrities and corporations.
Now, having built a solid foundation for success, we are ready to begin welcoming new members into The Society.
